Looking Ahead: 2025 Programs at NHS
Food and Stories of Life in Newbury
In 2025, we will focus our programming and collections on food – how we have produced food over time, how we’ve distributed it – and delicious recipes from Newbury cooks; and on collecting and publishing oral histories as recounted by long-time Newbury residents.
We invite you to keep an eye on listservs for notifications about events. If you’d like to join our email list, please email cynthia.maltbie@gmail.com.
Inventory of Community Buildings. With the support of the Selectboard, we convened a committee to assess the current state and needs of our community and town-owned historic properties. We recognize that many buildings we treasure are at risk. Members of the committee are documenting the condition of 11 community and town-owned buildings to understand what each may need to remain functional. Once we’ve completed these assessments, we will work with the Selectboard to prioritize and seek funding for needed repair and restoration.
Our goal is to update our accounting of the condition of the historic structures in our town, as well as to seek out sources of funding to protect and improve such structures and put as many of them into use as possible. If you’d like to join this effort, or if you have stories, old pictures, or artifacts related to town-owned and community historic buildings, please be in touch.
